North Island Winter Rage in September Spanner is going to have a WINTER RAGE at his place in Shannon, North Island. Shannon is 75 minutes out of Wellington. The Rage is over the weekend of 2-3-4 September 2005. The Rage coincides with the COLD KIWI at Waiouru, which is only a couple of hours from Shannon so it would be possible to combine them both. Spanner has invited all South Island TOMCC members to attend. I plan to go and would welcome some company. Anyone else who is keen to go please contact me for more details. I will let Spannar know numbers closer to the time as he plans to cater for around 50 and will make the numbers up from his other mates in the N.I.. Shannon is an easy days ride and Spannar and his missus are great hosts as those who went to the NI TOMCC Rally know. 2006 National Triumph Rally Next years dates for the National rally are 3rd, 4th and 5th of February at Scoutlands Lake, Wiritoa, Wanganui. This coincides with Waitangi weekend on the Monday so we get to spend an extra day up North if we choose too. Thanks Wayne Woodward Thanks very much to Wayne for supplying me with the articles on the Mokihinui and Waiau overnighter on the next page. It makes life allot easier when members want to contribute to the newsletters. If anyone has anything they want to contribute please feel free to give me a ring or email me the stories. Santa Maria rest home visit This was a success with 16 bikes attending and the rest home staff and patients enjoying the occasion. Robert Smith took advantage of one of the elderly patients whisking her off on his bike. Hopefully we also may have gained a member visiting his dad who has just bought as new Speedmaster. South Island Run Recently I travelled through some spectacular central Otago landscape. Round November I'm considering doing a 3-4 day run through Lawrence to Alexander then to the Lakes and backup through Haast Pass. If anyone is interested in camping in Schist stone outcrops sipping copious amounts of Speights beer drop me a line mate. PH Blair 388-0302 Next Meeting: Friday 27th May, 7pm at 7 Birch St. MOKIHINUI RALLY 1st-3rd April 2005: By Wayne Woodward Friday early afternoon and a small group of bikes are meeting at the Peg Hotel at Belfast then off to the inaugural Mokihinui rally. What a great ride through to the coast without even any revenue collectors to be seen. The ride through the Buller Gorge although short has to be one of the best. At the rally site I set up the cabin for the nite (no tent for me, a bit of local knowledge finally pays off) Then off to the local pub to catch up on prices which were good at $5 for a jug. I thought I had better show my support and proceeded to indulge in the local hospitality. All too soon or so it seemed the barman was saying, "right oh you buggers get to bed I have got to clean up for today"" a look at the clock confirmed he wasn't wrong its 3am, not a bad nite so I wandered off for some kip. The sun seemed to arrive a little too soon on Saturday for me and the talk about the camp was the ride to Karamea, I have done this ride a few times and would recommend it, but not when your feeling like I was, so I opted to visit some mates in Westport. By 4pm Saturday afternoon about 250 people were assembled, and a good half dozen or so were TOMCC members. The music was very good along with the food fish, hot meat, and whitebait sammy's all reasonably priced. About 9am the highlights of the evening had to be the jello wrestling with one of the local identities "Greeny"who wears a kilt. Regularly throughout the evening it was revealed what is worn under a kilt, any way Greeny was looking for a female opponent to wrestle and chose a rather well lubricated lady and climbed into the jello pool, well she wasn't too happy about this and showed her dissatisfaction about having been chosen by throwing her wooden leg at him, I kid you not words cant explain the crowds reaction, but then maybe you just had to be there. Then there was the burnout competition, even a jappa can look impressive in the dark with the header pipes glowing bright red to the muffler. Then there was the prize giving and I'm positive everyone there got something, which is a real credit to the organisers and their sponsors. With so much going on I don't think anyone even noticed the light drizzle. Next day it had cleared to a beautiful Sunday morning, Time for goodbyes and hit the road, another great ride home, and no riding in the rain, a real bonus. I recommend this rally if you are looking for something refreshing as far as rally's go, so I will look forward to seeing you there next year. WAIAU OVERNIGHTER: By Wayne Woodward All organised food trailer hangi, but a bad weather forecast, how many would turn up I had heard of four who couldn't make it for various reasons, but bugger it at least those that did, would have a good time. Saturday dawned clear and fine so about 9.30 am it was off to the meeting point, great already 8 or 9 there. John Ross was having a bit of bike trouble so he decided to take his car, which turned out to be a gift in disguise as the original back up vehicle couldn't make it so after hooking the trailer to Johns truck and loading a bit of gear we were off, first stop the Culverden pub for a spot of lunch. A pint a pie and plate of chips seemed to be the popular choice. Then it was off to Waiau to catch up with a couple from Nelson and new members from Reefton, Bruce and Zoë, also another compulsory pint. A quick glance at the time told us it was time to get to the camp site and get all the gear set up, this was accomplished in record time with all present pitching in and doing their bit. Pat had the hangi cooking and everyone was yarning about the great feeds to be had on this campout, while refreshments flowed freely everyone chatted and caught up with mates. A few more people turned up some to stay, others just a quick visit. As was to be expected Pats hangi meal was the highlight of the evening, which everyone really enjoyed then it was time for the serious socialising, the fires burnt bright and hot into the early morning. Sunday morning came clear and crisp but it didn't take long to crank up the fire and BBQ again. Coffee sausages, patties and bread soon provided fuel to get the body mobile. About 9.00am it was decided to break camp and pack up. Again this task seemed effortless with everyone lending a hand. During the ride out to Waiau it became quite obvious the bad weather during Saturday nite had really mostly missed us (ok, so we did get a bit of rain) the surrounding hills had received a dump of snow, and the air was bloody nippy, out to Culverden and into a bit of wind which gradually increased in velocity until Amberley where a bit of rain joined in the weather pattern back to Chch. Still it was a bloody great ride and nite out. Come along next year and check it out for yourself, its FREE for TOMCC club members you know.
