YORKSHIRE ROSE NEWSLETTER – SEPTEMBER 2005

With the National Rally results having just been published, I would like to congratulate our four members who managed to complete the course, Dennis, Platinum and the oldest combined age award on his T100A, John, Stuart and Pete for their Special Gold awards on their Hinckleys. Very well done to you all!

Even though the nights are drawing in, it’s been nice to see plenty of bikes at our club-nights, up to 12 or 13 on most nights, with one night standing out, when Meridens out-numbered Hinckleys by three to one. Thanks to all for making our meetings look more like a bike club! Quite a few changes of bikes around also, I’ve sold my Bonny and Keith’s sold his T90 so there are maybe two new members joining the branch. Richard has bought himself a T 160 and according to some “joined the elite”, with wife Nicola getting a 5TA to go with her 3TA.

There has not been too much on the Show front this last month, a few of us went to the Thoresby show where Mark won best in show, but as usual, with his Norton 750 Commando. Also we made a presence at the Rotherham Show.

Classed as the “longest club run of the year” a round trip of 1300mls, was made by Pete, Pat, Mick and Heather on their (now annual) holiday trip to France. A good time was had, with good weather and no major problems but they felt the sting in their pockets with the price of petrol over there (specially two up with luggage on a Small Heath Trident)! Petrol prices have caught up with ours and passed them by a fair margin. It was also noted that there were three different grades of unleaded on sale over there!

A very important note to put in your diaries is, November the 16th, this is the night we have earmarked for a talk by Norman Hyde about his days at Meriden. Please note that proceedings will start earlier at 8-30pm this club-night, so we can hold a short meeting before Norman’s talk at 9-00pm. There will be refreshments laid on.

Get your riding in, they’ll soon be putting the clocks back.
