YORKSHIRE ROSE NEWSLETTER – MAY 2005

With the clocks going forward it’s that time of year when we can get out on a few mid-week runs again, that is when the weather permits. After a couple of Tuesday nights going to the White Horse at Barnby Moor we decided to have a run out to Scarcliff, as I was getting ready the heavens opened and we had the biggest hailstorm seen for many a year, so that was that, off with the gear. Later on Tim let me know that six miles away the weather was fine, no sign of the couple of inches of hail we had on the ground. That’s how it seems to be up here in Yorkshire. Any one interested in the Tuesday night runs please get in touch with Tim or myself.

The following Sunday it was my turn to organise a run and because of the weather only three of us turned up, myself and Steve set of to pick up Tim on the way and set of eastwards into the rain, luckily this ran out after 2 or 3 miles. We were fortunate to have clear weather for the rest of the run on which we covered about 100 miles or so.

The following day (bank holiday Monday) saw the first show of the year run by Andrew Greenwood at Thoresby in North Nottinghamshire, fortunately the weather was excellent and the turnout very good indeed which makes a change for a bank holiday! I went to this show on my Bonny, my oh my what a culture shock, this being the first run of the year on “old iron”, how have I put up with old bikes for this long? At least I don’t forget to switch the indicators off! Congratulations to member Mark for taking “Best in Show”, pity it was with his Norton Commando, when are you getting your Daytona out again Mark?

The following weekend was Barry’s run out to the Northern Meet at Hartington. Seven bikes met up at the Carbrook and proceeded on to Owler Bar where we met up with Barry and three other bikes. After a few instructions from Barry on keeping together and telling us it was a “mystery tour” we tried to leave the lay-by in very heavy traffic to follow his instructions, only to see the first four of eleven bikes disappear into the traffic, never to be seen again until after we arrived at Hartington. Nice one Barry! With the loss of the vanguard and the onset of rain, the rest of us decided to make straight for Hartington, where we arrived without further incident.

It was noted all round that the attendance at the meet was well down this year. Do you think the venue needs a re-vamp? After the problems on our outward journey and the ever darkening skies I decided to wend my own way home and managed to park the bike in my garage just as the rain broke. Home and dry!

The following Tuesday night three of us had a pleasant trip up to the Canal Tavern at Thorne to an East Yorks. biker’s night, where we distributed “flyers” for our forthcoming Concourse Night. I think this venue is one to put down for future evening runs.

I’ll leave the report of the A.G.M. at Rhyl to others, as I couldn’t go because of other commitments, I had a wedding to go to! Some may say this wasn’t much of an excuse for not going – but then, the wedding was in Barbados!

Enjoy you riding. GLOVEBOX
