YORKSHIRE ROSE NEWSLETTER – JUNE 2005

This year we had our Concourse Night a week earlier than usual, first of all because our branch meeting night fell early and secondly to avoid another show, which normally clashed with our event on the same evening. The day of the show arrived and of course it rained cats and dogs most of the day, it was an anxious viewing of every weather forecast on the T.V. throughout the morning and hoping with all fingers crossed that their prediction that it would clear up from around 3.00pm, were on this occasion correct. All fears were removed as 3.00pm came along, the rain stopped and it began to clear up. With all the advertising that we had done and the expectation of a good turnout a bigger buffet was ordered and what we now needed was for the bikes and their owners to turn up. All fears were allayed as the bikes began to turn onto the front car park of the Carbrook Hall pub, with all members dropping into organising the bikes into their correct positions to help the judging, the only problem seemed to be the rapidly diminishing space to park all the bikes. A quick count of bikes gave a very healthy 110, a record for us and this was not counting the bikes in the rear car park that I didn’t know about.

The results of the voting (done by every-one who entered a bike) was:-

Pre 1950’s, J Shepherd 1927 Model H Triumph: 1950’s, T Stone 1967 T100/Goldstar TriBsa: 1960’s, Mark Smith 1969 Norton 750 Commando: 1970’s, R Fowles 1979 Norton Commander Rotary: Modern, M Hough 1995 Triumph 900 Trident: Best Triumph, L Kightley 1973 Triumph Daytona.

I would like to thank all club members for helping out with the entrants bikes and the booking in of said peoples, special thanks to Mick on the sound system, and the girls of the club on raffle ticket duty, not the nicest duty in trying to prise money off bikers but without their help we would not have had the success we had. Also many, many thanks to our sponsors for their generous donations of the raffle prizes (all sponsors listed on the front page of our web-site www.yorkshirerosetomcc.co.uk) but most of all, to all the bikers and visitors who came along and made this in our and their opinion one of the top events in the area. Last but not least to the owner and staff of the Carbrook for the use of their facilities and the provision of the marvellous buffet. Here’s to the next one-but please lets hope we have better pre-show weather!

Make the best of the remaining summer weather, as I write this, it’s mid-summers day and the evenings or getting shorter!
