| The first thing to report for this month is the run up to Whitby, which with two runs stalwarts living it up in France and another under house arrest with hard labour, so he would have us believe (I wonder who that could be?) only three riders (and a passenger (sorry about the brackets Clarrie!)) departed from the Carbrook Hall in a brisk north easterly direction. It had been said that had the horrendous weather of the previous night not abated this stalwart trio would have all stayed in bed. The rain held off with a sight of blue sky at times and a brisk but relaxed pace was maintained to Fimber country park, north of Driffield, to find Petefrombrid waiting for them (getting to be a regular now Pete). Then it was over to the A169, having a good run down to the Hole of Holcum, across Fylingdales and into Whitby, where the usual fish and chips and a pint” was partaken of, along with a stroll round the town. A report doesn’t pay justice to an astounding and enjoyable day. As was mentioned at the beginning of the report two of our more adventurous couples ( Mick and Heather, Chairman Pete and Pat) ventured over to France for a fortnights holiday staying about 50 mls from Paris, but were not brave enough to enter the city (I don’t blame them). With the weather being superb the hols were shared between touring and lounging round the pool (sober I hope laugh, laugh) On their travels they found a bikers bar with the pictures of Harleys on the walls, not real bikers! and when they pulled up onto the pavement outside all the clientele hung out of the windows clapping and cheering, obviously the sound and sight of a pair of Brit irons caused them to lose their Gallic reserve! About 1200 mls in total were covered on mostly good A roads but some of the switchbacks were a little tight to say the least. The only problems encountered were some carburation problems on Pete’s 750 Bonny and a couple of hot starting incidents on the triple. Pete’s carburation problems showed up on refuelling when he took on board more fuel than the triple! What I want to know folks is how you managed to take enough clothes for a fortnight, after you’ve worked it out, please give my wife a few lessons on how to pack so little! All in all, a wonderful holiday. One of the last shows/ runs was the annual St. Leger run, from the Doncaster Air Museum to the Trolley Bus Museum at Sandtoft. Tim, Keith, Roger (on their newly aquired Hinckleys) and Steve, with Pete on his Meriden left from Tim’s home for the Air Museum, from where they decided not to join the procession but make their own way to Sandtoft led by Keith. The weather kept reasonable, and some took a free ride in a 50’s double-deck bus around the Isle of Axholme. A very enjoyable day was had by all! Before being accused of plagiarism I would like to give thanks to John Mannion, Mick Goddard and Keith Hall for their help in compiling this report. Thanks lads! I’ll try not to take as many holidays next year. The Christmas dinner/party this year is on Wednesday 8th December, 7-30 for 8-00pm at the Grange Park Golf Club Rotherham, anyone wishing to go please get in touch with any member of the committee. Don’t look over your shoulder but Christmas is just around the corner. GLOVEBOX. |
